96th Police Academy Gives Back to the Community
(Lawrenceville, Georgia) Just a few months ago, recruits in the 95th Police Academy set a new standard. As a class, they decided to give back to the community when they helped paint a woman’s home as part of A Brush with Kindness, a division of Habitat for Humanity.
Not to be outdone, recruits in the 96th Police Academy also wanted to give back. As a class, they decided to team up with StreetWise (www.streetwisegeorgia.org). On Saturday, November 19, eighteen recruits, the training director, and members of the training staff met up at Archer High School to help with the event. They assisted with a Thanksgiving Meal Drive.
The recruits and training staff began the morning by checking people into the event. The recruits packed boxes of food for families to prepare on Thanksgiving Day. According to the StreetWise website, “Families will receive everything from a frozen turkey to the cranberry sauce and other delicious fixings.”
For 5 hours, the recruits and training staff helped supply approximately 300 families with meals.
Cpl. John Bailey, the training staff coordinator for the event said, “I selected this event due to the close proximity to the holidays and hoped it would help as many people as possible. The recruits did outstanding.”
We are anxious to see what the 97th Academy decides to do.
