Man Shot Investigating Burglary in Progress at his Grandson's House

(Lawrenceville, Georgia) Gwinnett County Police are actively investigating a shooting that happened August 18th around 11 a.m. at a residential home in Lawrenceville. The incident began when a fourteen year old boy called his mother to tell her that a silver car was parked in the driveway and someone was knocking on the door. The mother said that she would call her father who lived next door so that he could go and check on the teen. The teen barricaded himself inside his bedroom and shortly thereafter heard the main door break open.

He continued to hear voices and commotion as he heard the suspects ransacking his parents’ bedroom. One of the males attempted to force entry into the teen’s bedroom but was unsuccessful. Moments later, the teen heard his grandfather enter the residence and call out to him. Shortly thereafter, the teen heard a single gunshot. The grandfather had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. He then called out to the teen to call 911. The grandfather was able to call 911 also. Before paramedics arrived, a Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy placed a chest seal on the grandfather while police also rendered aid. The grandfather was transported to GMC-Lawrenceville. At this time, he is in critical but stable condition. The teen was not harmed.

Police are searching for three black males and a silver passenger car. Additional information regarding descriptions and vehicles will be released as it becomes available.
