(Lawrenceville, Georgia)  The Gwinnett County Police Department Electronic and Financial Crimes Unit is investigating another scam using movie prop money.  These latest incidents involve two suspects making vehicle purchases using the money. 

Incident #1:

On Sunday, August 14, (noon) a victim in unincorporated Loganville sold his black 2001 Volkswagen Beetle using the app “5Miles.”  The buyer gave him 13 $100 bills for the car.  The victim did not realize the cash was counterfeit until after the buyer left. 

Incident #2:

Several hours after the first incident, a victim sold his grey 2006 Volvo S60 using the “5Miles” app in unincorporated Lawrenceville.  The purchase price was $2,000, and the buyer gave the victim 20 $100 bills.  After the buyer left, the girlfriend of the victim saw that the bills were counterfeit. 

Based on information from both the victims in these cases, the lead detective determined that Joseph DeAngelo Lamb (age 39, Atlanta) and Dominic Darnel Mayberry (age 21, Riverdale) were involved in these fraudulent transactions.  Information was found on social media that linked these individuals to the crimes.  The detective secured 2 warrants for Forgery 1^st Degree and Theft by Deception for both Lamb and Mayberry. 

The Volvo was recovered in College Park. 

The lead detective has been in contact with the Secret Service about the company producing the counterfeit money.  The company is operating out of Florida.
