Officer - Involved Shooting, 2493 Buford Dam Rd

(Buford, Georgia)  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting involving a member of the GCPD SWAT Team.  At around 6:30am this morning, the GCPD SWAT Team was attempting to serve a High Risk Arrest and Search Warrant at 2493 Buford Dam Road in Buford.  The warrants were related to drug activity.

As the officers were simultaneously making entry to multiple areas of the home, a female produced a firearm and began shooting at one of the SWAT officers.  We believe she fired at least two times.  The SWAT officer returned fire and struck the female multiple times.  At least one of her injuries was to her torso.

The officer was not hit by any of her gunfire, but he did sustain a minor non-life threatening injury to his arm.

SWAT Medics took the female outside to a waiting ambulance.  She was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with very serious injuries.

There were 8 people inside the home at the time of the shooting.  The additional 7 people were immediately detained.  They were eventually transported away from the scene to be interviewed.  It is unknown if any of those remaining 7 people have any active warrants.

Though we have not been able to confirm, we believe that the subject of the arrest warrant was the woman who fired at the officer.  The last update was have on her was that she was in surgery.

The GBI was called to investigate this officer-involved shooting.  Additional information regarding this investigation will need to be made through their agency.

In the past 10 months, there have been a few ordinance violation calls and area checks at the home.
