Officer Involved Shooting - Friendship Road

(Braselton, Georgia)  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has been tasked with investigating our 2nd officer involved shooting of 2017.  Earlier this morning, an officer assigned to the North Precinct recognized a wanted person in the area of Buford Highway near Hamilton Mill Road.  The suspect/driver had active felony warrants for his arrest (charges unknown).  The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled.

The officer(s) began pursuing the suspect driving a purple Ford Escort.  During the pursuit, the suspect pointed a gun outside the window and began firing in the direction of the officer(s).

The pursuit eventually ended up on Friendship Road approaching Highway 211 in the city of Braselton (Hall County).  The suspect was traveling on the opposite side of the road toward oncoming traffic.  Noticing that a major intersection was up ahead, one of the officers performed a PIT Maneuver a couple hundred yards prior to Highway 211.  The suspect’s vehicle spun around, now facing two of the pursuing officers.  The suspect pulled out a gun.  One officer recognized the deadly threat and fired at the suspect through his own driver’s side window (of the patrol car).

The suspect suffered from two injuries.  One of his injuries was to his jaw, and his other injury was to his hand.  At this time, it is unknown if the officer struck the suspect with his discharged round or if the suspect injured himself.

The GBI was contacted, and their investigators and Crime Scene personnel responded to the scene.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.  The last update on the suspect was that he was in stable condition.
