Original, 06/24/2016: (Snellville, Georgia) The Accident Investigation Unit was utilized twice yesterday to investigate two very serious accidents in Gwinnett within about an hour of one another. The first accident occurred in unincorporated Snellville on Bethany Church Road near Brannan Road. The second accident took place on Old Peachtree Road and Manor Glen Drive in unincorporated Suwanee.
The Snellville accident involved a pedestrian.
Tiffany Hayes (age 31, Snellville) was driving westbound on Bethany Church Road in a brown 2009 Honda CRV. There was a 7-year old boy in the backseat. Georgette Stovall (age 51, Snellville) was walking her dog on the opposite side of the roadway on the sidewalk.
According to the lead investigator, Hayes traveled over the double yellow line, traveled up the curb, and struck Stovall and her dog. Stovall was transported to the Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville with very serious injuries. Her dog remains missing.
It is not known if Stovall’s dog, Ali (short for Alice), survived her injuries. If anyone has seen the dog, please contact the Gwinnett County Police Department non-emergency phone number: 770 513-5700.
The investigator is still trying to determine the reason Hayes traveled into opposing traffic and ultimately hitting Stovall, but it does not appear to be an intentional act. Hayes could be charged at a later time.
The brown Honda CRV was transported to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters for an inspection.
