Rabbit Rescue "Numbers Too High"

(Grayson, Georgia) On July 22, 2015, Gwinnett County Animal Control received a complaint regarding excessive rabbits at 1780 Bennett Road in Grayson. The complainant received a free rabbit from the location and felt that the rabbit was sick. Gwinnett County Animal Control responded to the location on July 24, 2015. During the visit, animal control officers observed numerous pens with rabbits inside. Some of the pens were overcrowded which is a characteristic of animal hoarding. However, the rabbits appeared to be well fed and healthy. The animals were not living in filth and none of the animals were dead. The owner of the property requested assistance to reduce the number of rabbits at the location. It is estimated that there were approximately two hundred rabbits at the location. The exact number is unknown.

Today at 1PM, Gwinnett County Animal Control, Georgia Department of Agriculture and a rescue group called, “Georgia House Rabbit Society,” will be at the location assisting with removing some of the rabbits from the location. Some of the rabbits will remain at the location and others will be signed over to Gwinnett County Animal Control and the rescue group. Gwinnett County Animal Control has no plans to cite the owner because there were no county ordinance violations.
