Two Separate Overdose Deaths in the Same Neighborhood

(Lawrenceville, Georgia)  The Gwinnett County Police Department Criminal Investigations Section is currently investigating two overdose deaths this morning in unincorporated Lawrenceville.  The deaths occurred in the same neighborhood within .3 mile from one another.

The first call came in at 6:09am from a home on Turtle Creek Way.  The caller told 911 that a young man was unresponsive.  Uniform officers and members of the Gwinnett County Fire Department quickly responded to the home.  He was later pronounced deceased.

The second call came in at 6:53am to a home on Turtle Creek Court.  This began as a medical call.  Again, officers and GCFD responded to the home.  The young man was later pronounced deceased.

At this point, officers and detectives believe that both men died of overdoses.  The substance that they died from is still under investigation.  As they compared the events at both locations, they found a similarity in the drug packaging at both homes.  According to the officers at the scene, the drug packaging appears to be a white sheet of paper folded up into multiple squares to create an envelope.  The second paper is much smaller and is ripped up into the shape of a rectangle.

It is still possible that these overdose deaths were unintentional.  It’s extremely important that we identify the source of this substance so investigators can try to prevent any future deaths.

Substance abuse and recreational use have far-reaching effects on not-only the victim but the victim’s family and friends as well.  Of course, it is always best to never even try drugs.  But, for those battling addiction and who need help, we encourage you to seek treatment and counseling at the many treatment centers in the Gwinnett and Atlanta areas.  A simple phone call to a treatment center may be the first step in saving a life.

The names and addresses for these events are being withheld until notifications can be made.
