UPDATE: 14-Yr Old Boy Shot in Head - Victim Identified
Update #1, 09/27/2016, 11:00am: The victim has been identified as Fredis Albayero-Rodriguez (age 14, Norcross). At this time, his latest condition is unknown.
The original incident occurred at 1413 Wingfoot Way in unincorporated Norcross. Fredis lives at a different home in the same neighborhood. He was visiting his 15-yr old friend at the incident location. Both Fredis and his friend were on a sofa inside the house when the gun went off. There were additional people inside the home in different rooms. One of those persons called 911 and received medical instructions from the call-taker until police officers and paramedics arrived. Fredis’s parents went to the house and were notified of the situation.
The lead detective will be working to determine the specifics of how the gun was fired and how the juveniles came to be in possession of it.

Original, 09/26/2016, 7:45pm: (Norcross, GA) Gwinnett County Police are investigating an accidental shooting involving a 14 year old teen who was playing with a stolen handgunat his friend’s house when it discharged and struck him in the head. Police responded to the scene shortly before 6:00pm. Following the shooting, his 12 year old friend who was sitting near him picked up the handgun, attempted to unload it, and fired the handgun a second time. No one was harmed by that shot.
There were at least two adults inside the home and four children ages five to sixteen. The 14 year old has been transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and is in serious condition. He lives in this subdivision and his parents have been notified. Police have learned that the 40 cal. Smith and Wesson handgun was stolen out of Marietta June 24, 2016. It is unknown where the teen gained possession of the firearm.
At this time detectives and crime scene investigators are processing the scene. There are no charges expected against the adults who were inside the home during the time of the shooting. This case is serious illustration of how dangerous firearms can be in the hands of children. (16-090074)
