Man Uses “Magic” to Commit Theft

(Duluth, Georgia)  For the past 6 months, a suspect has been befriending the staff at Professional Body Works Massage inside Gwinnett Place Mall.  The suspect would frequently come into the business to chat with the staff in fluent Chinese.  The staff does not know his name but refer to him as “black friend” in Chinese.

On Tuesday, June 2, the suspect came into the store.  On this occasion, he brought another man with him.  The suspect struck up a conversation with the victim.  During this conversation, the suspect told the victim that he could double his cash.  The victim gave the suspect a $100 bill.  The suspect took the bill and placed it in between two sheets of white paper.  He then began spreading black ink on one side of the paper.  The suspect then instructed the victim to put the papers under his foot to apply pressure.  The suspect took the money and washed it with water and revealed the original $100 bill plus another $100 bill.  The victim took his original $100 but did not take the duplicate.

On Wednesday, June 3, the suspect arrived at the victim’s home in Duluth.  (The victim had previously given his address to the suspect.)  The suspect asked the victim if he’d like him to duplicate his money again.  The victim declined and asked the suspect to leave, but the suspect told the victim that he was hungry and wanted something to eat.  During this time, the victim became curious about the duplication process.  He retrieved more than $32,000 in cash to see if the suspect could replicate the process.  While the victim went back to the kitchen to tend to the suspect’s food, the suspect left the home with all the cash.  In its place was a bag of blank, white papers.
