(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 20, 2017) – Gwinnett County Commissioners earlier this month approved an agreement with the Sugarloaf Community Improvement District to jointly fund a major update to the County’s Livable Centers Initiative study.

This work will assist the Sugarloaf CID and Gwinnett County in identifying and prioritizing public investment initiatives in the district. The final study document will include a list of recommended projects that will be eligible for funding under the Atlanta Regional Commission’s LCI program.

“Sugarloaf is a major regional destination for business and entertainment with more growth coming,” said Alyssa Davis, the executive director for the Sugarloaf CID. “The LCI plan will help us to coordinate transportation investments to meet current demands and future needs. The Sugarloaf CID looks forward to partnering with the County to complete this important study.”

The total cost of the LCI study update is estimated at $152,300 and will build on the recommendations of the initial Gwinnett LCI Study from 2001.

The County will contribute a maximum of $145,300, funded by the 2014 special purpose local option sales tax program. The CID will be responsible for any final study costs not covered by the County’s contribution.

A CID is a financial tool that allows property owners within a specific area to tax themselves to fund infrastructure, landscaping and quality of life improvements. The Sugarloaf CID formed in June 2016 with the Infinite Energy Center at its core.

While the CID covers about five square miles, in keeping with the primary boundaries of the 2001 study, the LCI update will extend over a larger area.
