GWINNETT SHARES NEWS OF WORK ON CSX RAILROAD CROSSINGS

(Lawrenceville, Ga., March 2, 2018) – CSX Transportation will replace the railroad ties on their tracks through Gwinnett County starting Monday. CSX is working to make the public aware of the project and to ask for motorists’ patience as the company seeks to make the crossings safer.

The work is expected to last six weeks, weather permitting, and will impact almost all at-grade crossings on the rail line, which somewhat parallels US Highway 29. Two teams will start work on both sides of Gwinnett County and work their way eastward. One team will start close to the DeKalb County line and the other will begin in Dacula.

CSX Transportation representative Ray Porter said the work crews are like rolling production lines that work their way down the tracks, working the crossings as they come to them.

Porter said each crossing could be closed for several days and multiple crossings may be closed at the same time. Some of the crossings have two to three tracks, which may increase the time required at those locations.

Porter thanked motorists in advance for their understanding and cooperation, and asked drivers to follow any posted detours or to seek alternate routes.
