(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 10, 2017) — Can you even begin to imagine a day without water? On a personal level, we all depend on water for everything from teeth brushing and toilet flushing to cleaning and bathing. And the need for water continues even after we leave our homes for work or school.

Water is also essential to a functioning economy. An economic study released by the Value of Water Campaign earlier this year found that a single, nationwide day without water service would put $43.5 billion of economic activity at risk. 

“Water is our most precious resource—it is essential to everything we do,” said Tyler Richards, assistant director for the Department of Water Resources. “Our staff works around the clock to manage, protect and conserve our water resources. In recognition of the ‘Imagine a Day without Water’ awareness campaign, we invite Gwinnett County residents to join us at several upcoming events to learn more about what DWR does, and how they can help protect and conserve our water resources.”

These events include:

• October 12 (the specific date for “Imagine A Day Without Water”), DWR will host a Homeowner H2O Workshop, focusing on leak detection and repair, installing water-efficient fixtures and increasing your family’s water-saving behaviors. Registered attendees will receive a leak detection and conservation kit.
• October 21, DWR will partner with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful to lead a watershed cleanup event as part of Gwinnett’s Great Days of Service.  Volunteers will focus on preserving and protecting the Lower Yellow Watershed in Snellville by removing litter and participating in a storm drain stenciling program.
• October 28, DWR invites residents to the Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility Fall Festival. “Trick or Treatment” will be the theme for this fun-filled, family-friendly day. Activities include games, giveaways, pumpkin decorating, free fairground food and a tour of one of Gwinnett’s innovative water reclamation facilities.
