Chief of Police : A.A. (Butch) Ayers
Chief A. A. “Butch” Ayers began his career as a Police Officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department in October of 1984. He has earned promotions at regular intervals and has worked in almost all areas of the agency.
Chief Ayers has commanded the Administrative Services Division, Support Operations Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Uniform Division, Professional Standards Unit, Central Precinct, and the SWAT Team during his career with the department.
A 2009 graduate of the 237th Session of the FBI National Academy and a 2002 graduate of Class VI of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College, he holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbus State University and has logged more than 3700 hours of specialized training during his career. The Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council has awarded Chief Ayers several certifications, including Intermediate, Advanced, Supervision, Management, Executive, General Instructor and Senior Instructor.
Chief Ayers assumed command of the Police Department in October 2014.
