Buford Man Arrested for Rape, False Imprisonment, and other Serious Charges - Additional Charges Added

Update #1, 12/12/2017: Following the Narcotics investigation, Thuan Q. Dinh (age 39, Buford) has recently been charged with Trafficking Marijuana and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance.  He was served these additional warrants while incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Jail.

Original, 11/30/2017: (Buford, Georgia)  A Buford man has been arrested for rape, false imprisonment, and several other charges in reference to an incident last week.

On Friday, November 24, shortly before 9am, officers assigned to the North Precinct were dispatched to a “Rape” call at a home on Grand Ashbury Lane in Buford.  Once there, officers met with a 41-year old Asian woman from out-of-state along with the residents of the home.  The victim showed up at the resident’s home fully nude, hands bound with rope, and duct tape around her head and neck.  The residents/neighbors removed the duct tape.

Officers determined that the original crime occurred at 594 Grand Ashbury Lane.  After officers traveled to the home, they found no one inside.  They secured a search warrant to make entry into the house.  While searching for any suspects or evidence in the case, they located a large amount of suspected marijuana.   The woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries, and a Narcotics Unit detective was contacted in reference to the large amount of drugs found at the home.

Throughout the course of this investigation, the lead detective learned that the suspect (the woman’s boyfriend) traveled to her home (in California) and drove her back to his home in Buford.  After arriving at the home, the victim was tied up, raped, and tased.  She was physically and sexually assaulted for about 24 hours.  She was left abandoned in the basement of the home on Friday morning after the suspect left for a short period of time.  While the suspect was away, the victim seized the opportunity and fled.  She ran to the neighbor’s home for help.

The Special Victims Unit detective assigned to the case learned that the suspect had been using multiple names.  It was recently discovered that the suspect’s true name is Thuan Q. Dinh (age 39, Buford).  Once his true identity was discovered, the detective secured warrants for:  Rape, False Imprisonment, Robbery, and 2 counts of Aggravated Assault.

Dinh was eventually captured on Wednesday, November 29, during a traffic stop on Buford Highway and Suwanee Dam Road.  Following his arrest, he was transported to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters and eventually taken to the Gwinnett County Jail around 4pm.

Additional warrants could be forthcoming in reference to the seized drugs.

The victim is now in a safe location recovering from this event.  We hope that she makes a full recovery from all her injuries both physically and emotionally.  Now that the suspect has been captured and charged, we hope this will start to bring some comfort to her and her family.
