Child Struck by Vehicle in Crosswalk

(Norcross, Georgia)  A 12-year old boy is being treated for injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk.  Shortly after 8 AM, officers assigned to the West Precinct were dispatched to a pedestrian accident on South Norcross Tucker Road near Graves Road in unincorporated Norcross.

Responding officers located a school-aged boy suffering from serious injuries.  He was transported to a local hospital.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the boy pressed the crosswalk button in order to cross the road.  After he passed the center median, he was struck by a black Kia Sedona.  The driver of the Kia remained at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.  There are a few added crosswalks throughout the area where pedestrians can attempt to cross the roadway.  We’d like to remind drivers to be extra cautious when traveling through areas where there is heavy pedestrian traffic.
