UPDATE #2: GCPD Offering Informational Class on Human Trafficking – Second Class Offered

Update #2, 1/10/2020: Due to the overwhelming response to the first informational class, Gwinnett County Police has partnered with New Mercies Christian Church to offer a second class at their Lilburn campus on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 7:00pm.  New Mercies Christian Church is located at 4000 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lilburn.  The class is expected to be about an hour and a half with time built in for questions at the end.

This partnership allows for a bigger venue and larger community presence.  Representatives from the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, the Gwinnett County Schools, as well as other community agencies and non-profits will also be in attendance.  Given the graphic nature of human trafficking, this class is not recommended for children under age 16.  Child care is provided on site.  There is no RSVP or registration required.

Questions can be directed to MPO Ashley Wilson at ashley.wilson@gwinnettcounty.com or to the church directly at 770-925-8600.

Update #1, 12/11/2019: The class is full.  The coordinator is looking in to offering this course again in the spring of 2020.

Original, 12/09/2019: (Lawrenceville, Georgia)  With the increase of worrisome rumors that have circulated on social media of attempted abductions and sex trafficking in the area, the Gwinnett County Police Department is committed to educating and informing residents on the realities of Human Trafficking.

Gwinnett Police will host an informational session at Police Headquarters (770 Hi-Hope Rd., Lawrenceville) on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 from 6:30pm-8:00pm.  The class will cover what human trafficking is, Georgia statistics and laws, who the victims and traffickers are, and what the community can do to combat human trafficking.

Given the graphic nature of human trafficking, this class is recommended for those 16 years old and older.  Class size is limited to 120 people on a first come first serve basis.  Questions and/or to RSVP can be directed to MPO Ashley M. Wilson at Ashley.wilson@gwinnettcounty.com.  Should this training fill up quickly, additional dates will be added.
