Original, 11/26/2017: (Lawrenceville, Georgia)  At approximately 1am officers from the Central Precinct were dispatched to 354 Lexington Drive in unincorporated Lawrenceville in reference to a person shot call. When officers arrived they learned that the victim, Nelson Martinez (29), was reportedly shot twice in the chest, but was transported to GMC Lawrenceville prior to their arrival. A crime scene where the shooting occurred was established and CSI and detectives responded to the scene.

Officers made contact at the hospital with the witness where they learned that he and Martinez caught 4 Asian males breaking into 2 different vehicles directly in front of his residence. Martinez chased the males, tackling one of them to the ground. That is when approximately five shots were fired from a separate suspect, two of which struck Martinez in the chest. No one else was struck by the other bullets. All 4 suspects then got into a white 4 door passenger car, possibly a Honda or Toyota.

Two separate vehicles were located as described by the witness and they each appeared to have been entered. Additionally, two other vehicles on Lexington Drive were reported as entered. In one of those cases, a gun was reportedly stolen from the vehicle. All vehicles that were reported entered were processed for evidence by CSI in addition to the original crime scene.

Martinez is currently in stable condition after undergoing immediate surgery.
