Uber Driver Charged with Rape of 16-Year Old Girl

(Norcross, Georgia)  A Gwinnett County Police Department Special Victims Unit detective was recently assigned a rape case involving a 16-year old girl and an Uber driver.  Now, he wants to know if there are any other victims involving the suspect.

In the early morning hours of Monday, December 11, officers assigned to the West Precinct were dispatched to an apartment complex off Old Norcross Tucker Road in unincorporated Tucker.  Once there, they met with a 16-year old girl who appeared to be extremely intoxicated.  The girl told the officers that she was previously at a local bar drinking with friends.  One of her friends scheduled an Uber ride to get her home.

The Uber driver eventually arrived and then later dropped her off in the apartment complex.  After she got out, she began banging on doors asking for help.  One of residents called 911.  When officers met with her, she told them that she was sexually assaulted by the Uber driver.  Her pants were down around her ankles when she was found.

The officers made contact with the friend who scheduled the Uber ride and obtained identifying information on the driver along with the vehicle information.  And, the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and an evaluation.

The case was immediately assigned to a Special Victims Unit detective.  The detective contacted Uber (company) who have been very helpful and cooperative with the investigation.  With the information learned from Uber, it is likely that the rape occurred somewhere along South Norcross Tucker Road in between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Old Norcross Tucker Road in unincorporated Norcross.

After conducting follow-up on this case for the past few days, he was able to identify the Uber driver as Abdoulie Jagne (age 58, College Park).  As of now, there is one active warrant against Jagne for Rape.  Additional charges could be forthcoming.  The detective assigned to this case wants to know if any other woman has been sexually assaulted by Jagne.  If so, please call 770 513-5338.  Jagne was just apprehended by the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office and is currently en route to the Gwinnett County Jail.

Because this case involves sexual abuse of a child, the report and other details about the case are not releasable per OCGA 49-5-40.
