Asset Management is a business model used by the Department of Water Resources to manage its water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure. Asset Management principles drive decision making that considers the total lifetime cost of an asset, as opposed to simply considering capital costs. Through its Asset Management program, DWR strives to develop, maintain and manage utility assets at minimal costs while delivering the service levels our customers desire.
DWR’s information management systems serve as repository for all asset information, and includes mapping, asset characteristics and work history. These information systems provide DWR the most current information with which to make critical decisions, whether it be how to operate under emergency conditions, or when to replace an asset to ensure reliable operation. The Asset Management Section oversees the information systems used by DWR in managing assets.
