To provide customers with pure, high-quality water, Gwinnett County utilizes a special ozone and chlorine disinfection process, with fluoride for dental health, lime to adjust acidity and phosphates for corrosion control. This treatment process is used to eliminate bacteria, viruses and other contaminants found in untreated water.
Gwinnett County has also developed the existing water production operations with significant redundancy (duplication of critical components) to insure the reliability of the system and the production of water. At present, both raw water intakes can furnish water to the County water filter plants. In the event one water intake fails, the other water intake can provide an adequate supply of raw water to both processing plants to fulfill water customer needs.
