Project RESET 2.0 rental assistance program recognized by U.S. Treasury

In April, Gwinnett County was tasked with spending a little more than $55 million from the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program.

The goal was to help those directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fast forwarding, the U.S. Treasury has named the Gwinnett a top performer – a title that has gone all the way to the White House.

President Biden can now point to the County as the way the funds should be spent on the local level.

“I am beaming with pride. It’s an honor to be identified as a local jurisdiction implementing best practices,” said Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson. “The financial services and grants teams have worked tirelessly to ensure those who need help receive what they need.”

With support from the Gwinnett County Magistrate Court and HomeFirst Gwinnett, the additional stimulus funds helped extend the Project Reset rental assistance program funded last year by the federal CARES Act. Now known as Project Reset 2.0, the expanded program provides direct rental and utility assistance to income-eligible individuals and families financially hit by the pandemic.

The County is still accepting applications for Project RESET 2.0, an expansion of its emergency rental assistance program.

To receive assistance, applicants must be a renter in Gwinnett County; have a household income at or below 80 percent of the area median income; have either qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced a financial hardship due to COVID-19; and demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability through having an eviction notice, past due rent notice, or past-due utility bill.
