BLAZE DESTROYS LILBURN HOME

(Lilburn, Ga., October 12, 2018) - Firefighters responded at 12:51 p.m. to an occupant report of a house fire in the 230 block of Camp Creek Road SW in the City of Lilburn. Caller to 9-1-1 reported the house was on fire and smoke was coming from the roof. The occupant reported evacuating the residence.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find a single-story, wood-framed residence on a cellar with heavy fire involvement through the roof on the right side of the structure. The residence was approximately 300 feet from the roadway. Firefighters quickly deployed fire attack hose lines and began to battle the blaze from the exterior until fire trucks connected to a hydrant. Crews transitioned to an interior fire attack until the intense heat and partial roof collapse forced them to back out. Multiple hose lines and a master stream device were operated to knock down the fire and bring it under control. The home is considered a total loss with extensive fire damage throughout.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

The occupant stated he was sleeping and awoke to a house full of smoke. The occupant reported smoke detectors in the home were not working. Two adult males were displaced and declined American Red Cross assistance.

Fire Investigators were requested to respond to the scene for origin and cause determination. Fire Investigators determined the fire originated on the front-right side of the structure and the cause is undetermined and under investigation.

Firefighters are reminding citizens that October is Fire Prevention Month in Gwinnett County. Residents are encouraged to keep their home and family safe by following simple fire safety rules:

  • Install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each of the bedrooms.
  • Develop a home fire escape plan and practice fire drills regularly.
  • Keep a portable fire extinguisher close at hand to douse a small fire.
  • Look for and eliminate home hazards that could cause a fire to start or grow in intensity.
