FIRE DESTROYS MULTIPLE UNITS AT LAWRENCEVILLE APARTMENT FIRE

(Lawrenceville, Ga., February 9, 2019) – Firefighters responded to a resident’s report of an apartment fire on the 3500 block of Club Drive NW in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The caller to 9-1-1 stated that their apartment was on fire.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke pushing up and out of the attic on the back side of the multifamily dwelling. Occupants were already in the process of evacuation when fire trucks arrived. Firefighters immediately began deploying lines to begin their attack on the fire.  As these lines were being deployed, the blaze started venting the roof of the structure. Crews began an aggressive interior attack and were met with heavy fire involvement and poor visibility due to smoke.  Per the Incident Commander, two breezeways were impacted by the intense flames as the fire began spreading to the front of the building.  While the crews were bringing the fire under control, primary and secondary searches were successfully completed and no humans or pets were found to be injured.

Multiple units have been deemed to be at a total loss.  Significant smoke, heat, and water damage is noted to several adjoining units. The American Red Cross has been requested to provide assistance.  Property management is actively working to determine the exact number of occupants that have been displaced from the fifteen damaged units.

Per the Fire Investigator, the cause of the fire and its point of origin have yet to be determined.
