FIRE DISPLACES THREE ADULTS IN SUWANEE HOUSE FIRE

(Suwanee, Ga., December 6, 2018) - Firefighters responded to a neighbor’s report of a fire at the 1800 block of Belmont Creek Pointe NW in unincorporated Suwanee. The caller to 9-1-1 reported seeing smoke and flames at their neighbor’s house.

Crews arrived to find fire in the garage of a two-story, single family residence.  Per the Incident Commander, no one was home so firefighters had to force entry.  Attack lines were deployed and a quick stop enabled the crews to keep fire damage contained to the garage.  The first and second floors of the structure have extensive smoke damage.  As a result of the fire, there will be a total of three adult occupants displaced.  No assistance was requested from American Red Cross. There were no reported injuries.

Per the Fire Investigator, the fire appears accidental and originated in the garage due to smoking materials.

Residents are encouraged to keep their home and family safe by following simple fire safety rules:

  • Install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each of the bedrooms.
  • Develop a home fire escape plan and practice fire drills regularly.
  • Keep a portable fire extinguisher close at hand to douse a small fire.
  • If you smoke, smoke outside.  Most home fires caused by smoking materials start inside the home.  When you smoke outside, discard cigarettes and ashes preferably in a can filled with sand and never throw smoking on the ground.
  • Keep a portable fire extinguisher close at hand to douse a small fire.
