FW: GWINNETT FIRE MEDIA ALERT: ACTIVE NATURAL GAS LEAK OUTSIDE – FIVE FORKS TRICKUM ROAD, SW AND ROSEHILL LANE IN LAWRENCEVILLE

Firefighters are currently on the scene of a natural gas leak outside on Five Forks Trickum Road, SW and Rosehill Lane in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Firefighters arrived to find an odor of gas and an active leak at a subdivision construction site. A work crew struck an approximate 4-inch gas line while digging. An emergency crew from Atlanta Gas Light is on the scene and is working to stop the leak. Firefighters have a hose line on the ground to protect gas company workers. The Fire Department’s hazmat unit is on the scene assessing air quality readings in nearby storm drains. The windy conditions are readily dissipating the gas vapors and there are no evacuations and no immediate exposure hazards. Five Forks Trickum Road is closed from Arnold Road to Emerald Forest Circle. Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the leak is brought under control. There are no injuries reported.

Additional information will be sent by the Fire-PIO when available.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDES: 1-Engine, 1-Hazmat Unit and 1-Battalion Chief .
