BLAZE DAMAGES BUILDING AT MEDLOCK WOODS APARTMENTS

(Peachtree Corners, Ga., Dec. 26, 2020) – An early morning fire caused heavy damage to several apartment units at the Medlock Woods Apartments in Peachtree Corners. Firefighters responded to the blaze on the 5100 block of Beverly Glen Village Lane at 2:49 a.m. The caller to 911 reported hearing what sounded like an explosion and the building on fire.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor and in the attic of a two-three split, wood-frame apartment building. Residents were already out of the burning building when fire trucks arrived and there were no injuries reported. The fire caused heavy damage to 5-6 apartment units and smoke and water damage to the units directly below. Firefighters completed a primary and secondary search and did not locate anyone inside the building.

The fire is believed to have started in a top floor apartment and quickly spread throughout the attic. It took fire crews approximately 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under active investigation. The Fire Investigator has not been able to locate or speak with occupants in the unit where the fire originated. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section at 678.518.4890.

The American Red Cross and Management at the complex are working together to provide temporary assistance for approximately 20 residents displaced by the damage.
