GWINNETT FIRE MEDIA E-NEWS RELEASE UPDATE: FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES STORM RESPONSE BRIEFS FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 14, 2019

The following is a brief synopsis of storm related incidents handled this afternoon by Fire and Emergency Services personnel.  It does not include all calls for the time period. 

WIRES DOWN/TREES DOWN:

  • Firefighters responded at 12:30 p.m. to a report of power lines down in the 3500 block of Abbotts Bridge Road NW in the City of Duluth. On arrival, crews found a power line that broke loose from the utility pole. A safe area was established and Georgia Power was notified. Duluth Police Department had Abbotts Bridge Road shut down between Hill Street NW and Mattison Street NW for the duration of the incident.

Equipment at the scene included: 1-Engine

  • Firefighters responded at 12:46 p.m. to a report of power lines down in the 4800 block of Habersham Ridge SW in unincorporated Lilburn. The caller to 911 reported a tree fell and took down power lines across the roadway. On arrival, crews found a tree across the roadway with cable and phone lines down. Comcast and AT&T were notified to be enroute to the scene. The scene was secured with caution tape and the unit left the scene.

Equipment at the scene included: 1-Engine

  • Firefighters responded at 12:49 p.m. to a report of power lines down in the 500 block of Briscoe Boulevard NE in the City of Lawrenceville. On arrival, crews located a leaning utility pole with a low hanging power line. Lawrenceville Power was notified to be enroute and the scene was left with Lawrenceville Police Department.

Equipment at the scene included: 1-Engine

  • Firefighters responded at 12:53 p.m. to a report of a tree down at Baron Court SW and Five Forks Trickum Road SW in Stone Mountain. On arrival, crews found a large tree blocking the entrance to the subdivision. The scene was secured with caution tape and Gwinnett DOT was requested to respond for tree removal.

Equipment at the scene included: 1-Engine

  • Firefighters responded at 1:00 p.m. to a report of power lines down in the 300 block of Staley Drive NW in Tucker. The caller to 911 reported a tree knocked down power lines and was preventing cars from going in and out of the subdivision. On arrival, crews found a large pine tree across the roadway with power lines down. Georgia Power and Gwinnett DOT was requested to respond to the scene. The scene was secured and left with Gwinnett Police Department.  

Equipment at the scene included: 1-Engine

  • Firefighters responded at 1:24 p.m. to a report of power lines down at Springwood Drive NW and Burns Road NW in unincorporated Lilburn. The caller to 911 reported wires hanging across the roadway. On arrival, crews found a cable line to a single residence that had come loose. The cable was removed from the roadway and the homeowner was contacting his service provider.
