(Snellville, Ga., May 13, 2020) – Firefighters battled an early morning house fire on the 2900 block of Glynn Creek Court, SW in unincorporated Snellville. The occupant called 911 and stated that the garage side of the house was on fire and the inside was filling with heavy black smoke. The man was reportedly awakened by the smoke alarm and escaped unharmed with his three dogs.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire involvement on a two-story, wood-frame house. Firefighters quickly deployed water supply and fire attack hose lines and operated in the defensive mode to darken down the intense flames. Crews then made entry to complete fire extinguishment and conducted a primary search in part of the structure. The blaze was brought under control by 5:08am and caused heavy damage. The home and contents are considered a total loss due to the fire.
The occupant stated that he was in the garage earlier and was soldering on a motorcycle. A Fire Investigator was requested to respond to the scene for origin and cause determination. Due to the magnitude of the damage and a collapse hazard, the investigator was not immediately able to enter the right-side of garage where the fire is believed to have started. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under investigation.
The occupant declined assistance from the American Red Cross and will be staying with nearby relatives. There were no injuries reported.
