TIME DISPATCHED: 2:58AM
TIME ARRIVED: 3:03AM
TIME UNDER CONTROL: 3:29AM
(Lawrenceville, Ga., July 5, 2020) – Firefighters responded to a report of a house fire on the 1500 block of Sisters Court, NW in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The caller to 911 was a neighbor who advised that flames were coming from the house. Police were first to arrive at the scene and advised that the attached garage was fully engulfed. All occupants were out of the house and no injuries were reported.
Flames were shooting through the roof over the garage and burning in the attic as fire crews made entry with hose lines to extinguish the blaze and conduct a primary search. Firefighters were forced to back out after several minutes due to a partial collapse of the roof and advancing fire conditions inside the structure. The fire was brought under control by 3:29am. The blaze caused heavy damage to the home and contents.
The family, 3-adults and 2-children, were reportedly asleep at the time the fire erupted. The mother stated that she awoke to the children crying and went to check on them. She and the father smelled smoke and discovered the garage on fire. The family escaped unharmed and were outside the house when police and firefighters arrived. They told firefighters that the smoke alarms began sounding as they were exiting the home. The family was displaced by the damage, but declined assistance from the American Red Cross. They were renting the home at the time and had recently moved in. They are now planning to stay with friends.
Fire Investigators responded to the scene to assist with origin and cause determination. The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under investigation. Additional information will be sent by the Fire-PIO when available.
