FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE EARLY MORNING FIRE IN VACANT LAWRENCEVILLE STRUCTURE

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 8, 2023) - Firefighters responded to multiple reports of a house on fire near the intersection of Sterling Hill Drive NW and Towler Road NW in Lawrenceville at 2:59 a.m. One of the callers, who was a passerby, stated that the fire was spreading to the woods, and she did not see any cars in the driveway.

Upon arrival at 3:04 a.m., firefighters reported a working fire in a single-story, single-family residence on a crawlspace. During the walk-around, firefighters found a homeless person lying on the ground complaining of smoke inhalation. The patient was assessed and transported by medical crews to Northside Hospital Gwinnett, in stable condition. Meanwhile, firefighters removed plywood from the boarded-up windows so that suppressive efforts could begin. Fire crews established positive water and deployed several fire hoses combat the flames. The vacant structure was determined to be a single-family dwelling that had been converted into a business. The fire was brought under control by 4:09 a.m.

After achieving knockdown of the fire, search crews confirmed structure vacancy. There were no other injuries reported at the scene. All firefighters rotated through rehab before returning to service. Firefighters were unable to determine the cause of this fire.

 EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 4- Engines, 2- Ladder Trucks, 1- Squad, 2- Command Staff Units, 2- Med Units, 1- MS, 1- Air and Light Unit, and 1- PIO.
