(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 29, 2020) – Gwinnett County firefighters began responding to an influx of wind-related incidents just before 5 a.m. on Thursday. The majority of calls included wires and trees down in the roadway and on structures. An adult occupant was taken to the hospital non-emergency around 6:00 a.m. after a tree fell on a house on the 1100 block of Smoke Hill Lane, NE in Hoschton. Firefighters freed the occupant that was inside the house when the tree crashed through the roof. There is extensive damage to the home. Fire Command staff worked closely with emergency dispatchers to monitor call volume and update unit deployments as the storm moved through. Fire crews responded to over 175 calls for service between 4:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Additional calls reporting damage from the storm were still being received and dispatched by the 911 Communications Center at the time of this news release update.
