Update #1, 06/19/2019: An autopsy was completed on the victim during the evening of Tuesday, June 18.  After the ME’s Office discovered his identity, they found that he had a lengthy medical history.  The investigator at the ME’s Office determined that the manner/cause of death was accidental drowning.  His toxicology is still pending. 

Death notification is still pending.  Once his next-of-kin has been notified of his death, this Media Release will be updated. 

Original, 06/18/2019: (Norcross, Georgia)  The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating the case of a deceased man found in a shallow pond. Shortly after 6 AM, a man was walking along the bridge near 1700 Indian Trail Lilburn Road in unincorporated Norcross.  As he was on the bridge between the McDonalds and Krystal, he looked over the side and found the body of a man lying face-down in the water.  The man was fully clothed.

The passerby and another person called the GCPD 911 Center to report the incident.  Officers assigned to the West Precinct along with the Gwinnett County Fire Department responded to the scene. 

Not knowing if this incident is related to a crime or not, the Crime Scene Unit along with members of the Criminal Investigations Section responded.  After photographs were taken of the scene, the GCFD Water Rescue Team entered the water.  They collected possible evidence and eventually removed the body from the water.

It’s still too early to determine if the items collected in the water is related to the victim.  There was no obvious sign of trauma to the body based on a preliminary inspection.  The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.  The results of the autopsy will likely shed some light on the cause of death for this victim.

The identity of the victim is still not known.
