Fatality Accident – Callie Still Road

(Lawrenceville, Georgia)  The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the second fatality accident of 2019.  The accident occurred on Tuesday, January 8, at around 4 AM, on Callie Still Road near Laricks Lane in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

Lateika Powell (age 27, Monroe) was traveling northbound on Callie Still Road attempting to negotiate a curve.  She was driving a beige Toyota Camry.  Based on the preliminary investigation, Lateika lost control of her vehicle, crossed over the eastbound lane, went through the westbound lane, and left the roadway.  Her vehicle went air born and struck a tree on the driver’s side of the car. 

There were a total of five people inside the car.  Lateika suffered from serious injuries.  Ebony Tate (age 30, front passenger) had visible injuries.  Aaliyah Gonzales (age 8, behind driver) had serious injuries.  Mykal Tate (age 5, rear center) had serious injuries.  And, Candice Tate (age 29) was seated in the backseat on the passenger side.  Candice died as a result of her injuries. 

The beige Camry was impounded to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters for further analysis. 

At this time, no charges have been filed in this case.  Charges could come at a later time.
