Homicide Case Charges Administratively Dismissed

UPDATE - June 29, 2018 - On June 25, 2018, Gwinnett County Police Department officers were notified of a suspicious death at 3809 Leach Road, unincorporated Snellville.  The investigation was conducted in full cooperation with the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.  Upon review of the evidence and facts of the case, both departments agreed that charges should be pursued.  Jacquelyn Craft was charged with aggravated assault and felony murder on June 26, 2018.

Since that time, GCPD detectives and personnel from the District Attorney’s Office have continued the investigation.  Additionally, a post mortem examination was conducted by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.  Additional information and the post mortem examination revealed evidence which was not available to investigators at the time of arrest.

After careful examination of all of the evidence, the Gwinnett County Police Department and the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office have determined the proper course of action is to administratively dismiss the charges against Jacquelyn Craft.  This process was completed today, June 29, 2018.

Detectives will continue to investigate this case as a suspicious death.

ORIGINAL RELEASE - June 26, 2018 - Gwinnett County Police Department officers responded to a report of a death at 3809 Leach Road, unincorporated Snellville, on June 25, 2018 at about 11:30pm.  Jacquelyn Craft (W/F, 35 years old) reported that her mother, Evelyn Craft (W/F, 65 years old), had committed suicide by stabbing herself.  Responding officers located the victim deceased from apparent stab wounds.  Both women lived at the incident location.

Responding officers found the circumstances suspicious and contacted Homicide Unit detectives.  Detectives and the Crime Scene Unit investigated further and found evidence which contradicted Jacquelyn Craft’s story.  Detectives arrested Jacquelyn Craft and have charged her with aggravated assault and felony murder.  She remains in custody at the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond.
