(Snellville, Georgia)  Gwinnett County Police Department officers encountered a suspicious vehicle while patrolling in the area of Summer Wood Drive, unincorporated Snellville, just before 7:00 a.m. on October 17, 2019.  Officers were checking the area due to a car break-in nearby.  Officers noticed the suspicious vehicle and tried to perform a traffic stop on it; two suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

At about 7:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting on Countryside Way, unincorporated Snellville, about ½ mile from the suspicious vehicle location.  Upon arrival, officers discovered the homeowner and his 10 year old son had been shot; their injuries were not life-threatening.  The homeowner encountered the suspect in his garage attempting to steal a bicycle.  The homeowner confronted the suspect, who produced a handgun and shot at the victims, then fled on foot.  The shooting suspect matched the description of one of the suspects who originally fled the suspicious vehicle.

A large perimeter was set up by responding officers.  In addition to uniform patrol officers, the K9 Unit, a small SWAT element, and the Aviation Unit participated in the search.  At about 9:00 a.m., K9 tracked a suspect to a vehicle parked at the back of a residential property on Lenora Road.  The suspect, later identified as Jacobi Chomicki (B/M, 17 years old), was bitten by the K9 during the arrest.  He was checked by an ambulance and transported to police headquarters.

Chomicki was confirmed to be the shooter and one of the suspects who fled from the initial suspicious vehicle.  Chomicki is suspected in several other crimes in Gwinnett County.  At the time of this press release, he has not been booked in at the Gwinnett County Detention Center and remains in custody with GCPD detectives.  GCPD is still looking for the second suspect.
