COUNTY CELEBRATES VIBRANT AAPI COMMUNITY

(Lawrenceville, Ga. May 13, 2022) – Gwinnett County is home to Georgia’s largest Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

To honor the AAPI community’s rich heritage and legacies, the County will hold its annual AAPI celebration on Tuesday, May 17, at 6 p.m. on the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Plaza.

The celebration will include performances by well-known K-pop band, Take Two; a traditional Lion Dance by the Chien Hong School of Kung Fu; a hula dance with a custom fire performer and much more. Monica Khant with the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender Based Violence, multimedia artist and storyteller, Nicole King and County leaders will provide remarks.

“This year’s national theme for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is ‘Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration’, so this year’s observance gives us an opportunity to recognize the rich history and culture of our AAPI residents, while honoring the community and business leaders who have contributed to the vibrant fabric of our great county,” said Community Outreach Director Shaunieka Taste.

The Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center is located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.
