COUNTY TO SHIFT TRAFFIC MONDAY ON ALCOVY ROAD AT HARBINS ROAD

(Lawrenceville, Ga., August 6, 2020) – The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation will make a traffic shift on the Harbins Road/State Route 316 interchange project Monday, Aug. 10, when motorists move onto a new alignment on Alcovy Road at Harbins Road.

The realignment moves Alcovy Road southward, providing additional distance between the Alcovy/Harbins intersection and the new ramps for the interchange.

Message boards are up and flaggers are ready to direct traffic as drivers shift onto the new detour alignment after the morning rush hour on Monday.

“This is one of our last traffic shifts,” said Alan Chapman, director of the Gwinnett Department of Transportation. “The next shift will be toward the end of the project when traffic moves onto the new bridge over SR 316.”

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. began construction of the grade-separated interchange and bridge in fall 2019. Construction is expected to be complete by early 2022, weather permitting. The project is funded by the 2017 SPLOST program.

The project includes a new five-lane bridge over SR 316 with dual westbound left-turn lanes, a single eastbound turn lane and through lanes. The new interchange also will have full access ramps eastbound and westbound, as well as a collector-distributor road with direct access to Sugarloaf Parkway. The project also includes traffic signal upgrades, sidewalks, curb and gutter and retaining walls.

On Monday, flagging operators will help drivers with the new traffic pattern. Please drive alert while navigating the interchange. For more information, contact the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation at 770-822-7400.
