GWINNETT AND STATE OFFICIALS BREAK GROUND ON GEORGIA STATE PATROL POST IN GWINNETT COUNTY

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 6, 2019) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners and officials from the Georgia Department of Public Safety and Georgia Department of Transportation broke ground Tuesday on the Georgia State Patrol Post in Gwinnett County.

The 12.2-acre site, located on I-85 North between Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and I-985, will be home to a single story, 10,797-square-foot building that will replace the existing State Patrol Post off Pleasant Hill Road. The land is owned by GDOT.

Gwinnett Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash said, “We always knew the leased building in Duluth was just a temporary arrangement. Thanks to our good partners at GDOT and the Georgia State Patrol, we’ve worked together to create a permanent home for State Patrol troopers once again here in Gwinnett.”

District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks said, “I-85 is the lifeblood of my district and the county as a whole. We're grateful to have the Georgia State Patrol and the HERO units right here in Gwinnett to keep this major artery moving safely and smoothly."

Col. Mark McDonough of the Georgia State Patrol praised the new site’s strategic location. “Our primary job is to work traffic crashes and to enforce traffic law,” McDonough said. “What better place to locate this building to be able to serve Gwinnett County and help local law enforcement.”

Carroll Daniel Construction is building the patrol post as designed by Precision Planning. The post will house command staff offices, a troopers’ dayroom, classroom, evidence storage, dormitory space for 16 troopers and a Highway Emergency Response Operators Unit dayroom. The site also provides parking for GDOT’s HERO units.

GDOT Commissioner Russell McMurry said, “Our partners at the State Patrol make such a difference each and every day. As GDOT, we’re glad that we can provide HEROs to be present and provide aid in motorists’ times of need from a flat tire, to running out of gas, to bigger events like crashes.”

The project will be complete in spring 2020. The new patrol post will be located at 55 Old Peachtree Road NE in Suwanee.
