GWINNETT’S ANNUAL VETERANS DAY CEREMONY HONORS THOSE WHO SERVED

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 9, 2018) – Gwinnett County invites the public to recognize the men and women who served in the armed forces at the annual Veterans Day Ceremony Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial on the grounds of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive, in Lawrenceville.

The ceremony will kick off with a Veterans March at the memorial. All veterans who served honorably are encouraged to participate and be recognized for their service and sacrifice.

Col. Richard H. White, a Norcross native and Vietnam veteran, will be the keynote speaker at this year’s ceremony. White’s numerous awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal for Valor and the Combat Infantry Badge. During 31 years of active duty in the US Army, he commanded 13 units in Infantry, Special Forces, Aviation and Recruiting. In 1997, he retired from active duty and was later inducted into the US Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame. Col. White is a charter member of the Georgia Military Veteran’s Hall of Fame and currently serves as the co-director and chairman of the board.

The County hosts its Veterans Day Ceremo­ny each November to pay tribute to those in the military during wartime or peacetime. This year’s Veterans Day marks the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day. Gwinnett County residents who have served in any branch of the armed forces and their families are invited to participate. Likewise all residents are encouraged to attend to show appreciation to those who helped protect and defend the country.

The Veterans Day Ceremony will be televised beginning at 8 p.m. on Nov. 11 on TVgwinnett, the county’s local government access cable channel. TVgwinnett programming is also available streaming and on demand at www.tvgwinnett.com.
