GWINNETT TAKES PRIDE IN ITS RESIDENTS

2nd Annual Pride Party celebrates County’s LGBTQIA+ community

(Lawrenceville, Ga., June 24, 2022) – As Pride month comes to an end, the County will honor residents with its annual Pride Party.

The celebration will be held Tuesday, June 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.

It was on the same date in 1969 that an uprising in Lower Manhattan would spearhead the gay rights movement. The Stonewall Riots were a response to frequent arrests and raids at gay bars by the New York City Police Department.

As the County’s first openly gay leader, District 2 Commissioner Ben Ku says the party is a solemn reminder of the nation’s past, but a hopeful view into Gwinnett County’s future.

“Hate, in any form, has no place in Gwinnett — period,” said District 2 Commissioner Ku. “In order to stay true to our core values of inclusivity and equity, we must continue building a community where people feel safe regardless of who they love or how they identify.”

The Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center plaza is located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville.
