HAZARDOUS CLUTTER ACCEPTED AT GWINNETT’S HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE EVENT

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 9, 2018) – Not sure how to discard of household hazardous wastes like paints, cleaners and old batteries? Gwinnett County's Solid Waste Management division and Water Resources department, along with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, are partnering to host the County's first household hazardous waste disposal event on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Gwinnett residents are invited to gather their unwanted household hazardous wastes, such as pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, lawn care products and oils, and bring them to this free event to be disposed of properly. The event will take place at the Water Resources Central Facility at 684 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is limited to Gwinnett County residents; proof of residency may be required.

Household hazardous wastes should not be placed in household trash or recycling because they can contaminate waterways and pollute the air. This event promotes environmental safety and gives residents an opportunity to properly dispose of their household hazardous wastes.

Residents should take note of the following tips before they bring their items to the event:

  • Residents can each bring up to five containers of household hazardous wastes.
  • A complete list of acceptable items is available at www.sustainablegwinnett.com.
    • Items such as ammunition, pharmaceuticals, radioactive material and biohazardous/biomedical waste will not be accepted.

For more information, please call Solid Waste Management at (770) 822-7141 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
