SYNTHETIC TURF FIELD CONVERSION APPROVED FOR RHODES JORDAN PARK

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 20, 2018) – The multi-purpose field at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville will get a more durable, low-maintenance playing surface by next fall. Gwinnett commissioners awarded a field-conversion contract Tuesday to low bidder, Precision Turf, LLC.

About 85,000 square feet of synthetic turf will be installed and striped for football and soccer with tick marks for painting temporary lacrosse lines. The synthetic turf is a 2.5-inch tall slit-film fiber with an infill of sand and rubber. The field will be laser leveled with a slight slope from the center of the field to the side lines. An extensive drainage system will be installed with the capacity to remove up to 30 inches of rain per hour.

According to District 4 Commissioner John Heard, the synthetic turf and drainage mean the field will be available for use nearly all the time, regardless of the weather.

The contract also includes drinking water connections on both sides of the field to allow for the optional use of portable misting machines to help cool players, new fencing, new bleachers, sodded practice zone adjacent to the field, landscaping, concrete hardscapes and a plaza area with picnic tables.

District 4 Commissioner John Heard expressed excitement about these improvements and how it will set the youth sports leagues that play out of Rhodes Jordan Park up for even greater success as future (Central Gwinnett High School) Black Knights.

“This $2.17 million contract, funded by the 2017 SPLOST program, allows more use with less upkeep and makes Rhodes Jordan Park a more attractive amenity for residents and businesses looking to locate or expand in Gwinnett,” said Heard. “I will be happy to see families and teams using the picnic area to celebrate after evening and weekend games.”

Rhodes Jordan Park is located at 100 Crogan Street in Lawrenceville. For more information this and other SPLOST-funded projects, visit www.gwinnettcounty.com.
