    Acting County Attorney : M. Van Stephens

    Staff Member Name Van holds a juris doctor degree from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Birmingham and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Georgia. Van is a former partner in the firm of McNally, Fox, Mahler and Stephens, PC, and has practiced law in the Atlanta area since 1981. In 1993, he joined the Gwinnett County Law Department, and he has served as Chief Assistant County Attorney since 1997. Van is an alumnus of Leadership Gwinnett and holds a Certificate of Local Government Management from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government of the University of Georgia. He has served as the President of the Fayette County Bar Association and presently is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Gwinnett County Bar Association, and state and federal trial and appellate courts.



The mission of the Law Department is to deliver high-quality legal services at a reasonable cost to Gwinnett County and its citizens, elected officials, managers, and staff, authorities, and related organizations.
