Learn MoreGwinnett is partnering with Vision To Learn to deliver free eye exams and prescription eyewear to children in underserved communities, aiming to close the gap in access to vision care.
Licensed optometrists will bring fully equipped mobile clinics to designated locations across the county in July, making it easier for children ages 5 to 18 to receive the eye care they need. By delivering care directly in communities where it’s needed most, this initiative supports better academic outcomes and healthier futures for local youth.
Each exam will take about 20 to 30 minutes to complete, with wait times of up to an hour. Registration is required, and appointments are first-come, first-served. Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. To schedule your child’s appointment, visit GwinnettCounty.com/VisionToLearn.
Vision To Learn was founded in 2012 to ensure every child in America has the glasses they need to succeed in school and in life. Of approximately 1,750,000 students enrolled in Georgia public schools, Vision To Learn estimates that about 210,000 children need eye exams and of those, 170,000 need glasses.
Since launching in Georgia in 2017, the nonprofit has provided more than 53,000 eye exams and 44,000 pairs of glasses to students throughout the state. Last year alone in Gwinnett, the nonprofit provided 287 eye exams and 204 pairs of glasses.
