Gwinnett County mourns the loss of Officer Pradeep Tamang

Gwinnett County is mourning the loss of Gwinnett County Police Officer Pradeep Tamang, who was killed in the line of duty Sunday, February 1.

At approximately 7:30am, MPO David Reed and Officer Tamang were dispatched to a financial fraud call. During the course of the officers’ investigation, the suspect opened fire in an unprovoked attack. Both officers were struck, and one officer was able to return fire. The suspect received non-life-threatening injuries. Other officers from the South Precinct responded, providing rescue and medical treatment. Despite heroic efforts, Officer Tamang died as a result of his injuries.

Officer Tamang joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in July 2024 and graduated from the 121st Police Academy in May 2025. He immigrated to the United States from Nepal 10 years ago. He leaves behind a fiancée as well as family in Pennsylvania.
