Learn MoreGwinnett County successfully remodeled its annual Internal Plumbing Audit Program to reduce water consumption, lower costs, and more efficiently identify potential plumbing issues at County facilities. In previous years, a small number of Water Resources employees completed the extensive audit. Personnel would drive to each building, record measurements by hand on paper forms, and manually transfer the results into a digital database.
Examining the process, employees identified opportunities to better use County time and resources.
To execute this, the County developed an online survey, a comprehensive audit guide, and online training sessions. Trained employees throughout the organization then served as auditors for buildings they were already located in — regardless of their plumbing background.
This resulted in reduced costs, flexible scheduling, and a more effective process overall. In total, 3,700 fixtures were audited at 232 buildings by 46 auditors. In the future, Countywide plumbing audits are set to be scheduled on a reoccurring basis.
The County strives to promote water efficiency and preserve this precious resource. You can do your part to reduce water use in your home, saving water and helping you reduce your water bill.
