Learn More(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept.30, 2016) – In fine attire, participants from Gwinnett County senior centers attended their senior prom at Bethesda Park Senior Center in Lawrenceville. This is the 20th year Gwinnett County Senior Services has hosted the event.
From the soul train line up to line dancing, 180 seniors from Lawrenceville, Snellville, Norcross and Buford, gathered with their friends to dance to music and just have a ball.
Buford Senior Center Manager Patricia Armour has seen friendships developed over the years. She says, “This event has allowed them to build relationships and be more active amongst their peers. The seniors have gained long lasting friendships. Often times, they get together outside the centers’ activities and go on field trips.”
Helen Terry who attends Lawrenceville Senior Center was showing off her dancing moves with her husband Charlie of 50 years. It was their first time coming to the prom. “We have been able to connect with people.”
“She is still with it and loves to dance,” says Deborah Young in admiration of Louise Williams who is 99 years old and was boogieing down to the floor.
Many come back each year. Carla Albright from Kawneer in Norcross has been coming for nine years to volunteer, “It is so great to be that age and be so vibrant.” She hopes to be like them when she gets older.
Vee Coleman from the Buford area expresses her gratitude towards the staff, “They are so good to us and help to keep us happy. The staff is just wonderful.”
Gwinnett County Senior Services operate four senior activity centers located in Lawrenceville, Buford, Norcross, and Snellville.
