(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 6, 2011) - Pedestrian safety facilities will be built soon along Bush Road under a contract approved Tuesday by the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners. When completed, there will be continuous sidewalk from South Berkeley Lake Road to Medlock Bridge Road.
The project includes about seven-tenths of a mile of sidewalks, curb and gutter, striping and drainage improvements near Foxwood Road. CMES, Inc., of Lilburn was the lowest of six bidders at $544,815.
"This project, which was recommended by our 2009 Citizens' Project Selection Committee, will improve pedestrian safety and enhance the quality of life in this part of the county," said Gwinnett DOT Director Brian Allen. "The money to pay for this construction comes from the voter-approved 2009 SPLOST sales tax program, so there will be no debt financing. We use pay-as-you-go financing whenever possible."
Another sidewalk construction project is now underway on North Berkeley Lake Road from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to west of Lakeshore Drive. It will be completed this spring. A final project is being planned on North Berkeley Lake Road from Bush Road to west of Lakeshore Drive. Together, these and other recent improvements create a network of pedestrian facilities in the Berkeley Lake, Norcross and Duluth areas.
