Learn More(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 16, 2010) -The insurance Gwinnett County bought to cover its infrastructure in case of an earthquake or other natural disaster paid off this week. Commissioners accepted more than $2 million to help cover repairs after the flood in September 2009. The policy covered a variety of County-owned buildings, sewer facilities and stormwater drainage pipes.
Gwinnett County sustained damage to more than 300 individual stormwater pipes plus other claims for damage from either flooding or lightning during the storm. Adjusters from the Federal Emergency Management Agency were impressed that the county had insurance coverage on water, sewer and stormwater piping.
